of this car

This BMW M3 was first registered in 1998, when the BMW Motorsport division was producing the final version of the second-generation M3 — the E36 with the 3.2-litre S50B32 engine. It has remained in the same garage, with the same owner, throughout its entire life.

Over the years it has covered approximately 92,000 kilometres, always serviced exclusively by the official BMW network. Every maintenance operation is documented. The engine is in perfect condition today, the braking system has been completely overhauled recently, and the interior has been professionally detailed.

The car is mechanically and cosmetically original. No modifications, no tuning, no non-BMW parts. The only exception is an aluminium protective plate fitted beneath the sump — a reversible modification frequently adopted on the M3 E36 to protect the underbody due to its low ground clearance.

The S50B32 inline-six is one of the most celebrated engines the BMW M GmbH division has ever produced. Introduced in 1995 as a development of the earlier S50B30, it represented the definitive version of the M3 E36 through to 1999.

The SMG
gearbox

SMG stands for Sequential M Gearbox — the world's first automated sequential gearbox fitted to a production car. BMW introduced it on the M3 E36 in 1996, drawing its operating logic directly from the Motorsport division's Formula 1 experience.

Technically it is a six-speed Getrag manual gearbox whose single-plate clutch is operated not by the driver's foot, but by an electro-hydraulic actuator controlled by a dedicated electronic control unit. No clutch pedal — just a sequential lever and total focus on driving.

The M3 E36 SMG is an automated single-clutch gearbox — NOT a dual-clutch (DCT). BMW's first DCT would not arrive until 2008 on the M3 E92. The SMG remains historically unique as the world's first sequential gearbox in a production car.
